National Feral Cat Awareness Week (16th - 23rd October 2010)
Promoted by Feral Cats Ireland
The aim of National Feral Cat Awareness Week (16th - 23rd October 2010) is to highlight the plight of feral cats in Ireland and promote Trap Neuter Return (TNR) as a humane effective solution to their uncontrolled breeding.
Animals In Ireland
"I ask for the privilege of not being born ...not to be born until you can assure me of a home and a master to protect me, and a right to live as long as I am physically able to enjoy life...not to be born until my body is precious and men have ceased to exploit it because it is cheap and plentiful." - Author Unknown
More than 8000 unwanted dogs and cats are born every year in Country Cork and more than two thirds of these animals end up on the streets, starving and in misery, or they are put down by the local pounds that deal with unwanted animals.
Trap Neuter Return (TNR)
Trap Neuter Return (TNR) (aka Trap Neuter Release) is becoming recognized as an efficient and cost-effective tool for controlling and reducing feral cat populations.
Textile Recycling
Did you know your old clothes, bags, shoes and textiles can help raise funds for RAWR? Help feral cats and dogs while reducing your carbon footprint and saving our natural environment. I don’t see any drawbacks here! The money raised with your textiles STAYS IN WEST CORK!
Call us for a special recycling bag or fill a bin liner with your items. Then contact us for collection on 086 844 3244 or email us!
Don't Be Confuzzled!
PAW is in the process of changing to RAWR! - Rural Animal Welfare Resources. We're the same group, just changing to a name that better explains what we aim for. It's going to take a little time to get everything sorted, but you can already bookmark www.RAWR.ie to stay up to date!
Don't let there be any confuzzlement with another animal welfare organisation called PAWS (People's Animal Welfare Society). We are PAW - Promoting Animal Welfare - a small grassroots organisation promoting TNR, neutering and animal welfare in West Cork. PAWS is an international - primarily dog rescue - organisation in Co Tipperary. Find them on the web at www.PAWS.ie.
Carla Raadsveld
I just bought my first painting!! It's by Carla Raadsveld, a wonderful Dutch artist, living locally. Though it's a personal purchase, and I wasn't thinking of RAWR when I started to arrange it, I have to post it here. Isn't it beautiful? It's Skrootchie! He's one of our icon rescues. And he's bearing the eartip trademark of Trap Neuter Return (I gave Carla our Eartipping factsheet so she knew the correct surgical procedure).
Roach
Little Roach (short for Cockroach - he was a poor wee skanky scurrying thing when he arrived - nearly beautimous now tho!) will be available for adoption in the coming week. Kids used him and his sister as footballs. Sadly, little Spider, his sister, didn't make it - but Roach is bombproof as a result. He's tiny for his age of 8 weeks, but his heart's as big as a mountain. He absolutely loves people, likes sleeping on shoulders and heads(!), plays with anything, is scared of nothing and is the most adorable bundle of fur I've come across in a while. He steals everyone's hearts with his antics and affection and will be a faithful, loving puss to the human guardian who takes him in.
Bantry Agricultural Show 2010
Find RAWR at the Bantry Agricultural Show this coming Sunday! All the team of volunteers will be there to launch the new Barn Cat Project. Come and talk to us about our ongoing Trap-Neuter-Return program in West Cork. But above all come to enjoy the outdoor and indoor classes, the dog show and the atmosphere.
A day to celebrate animal life in all it’s variety - even the two legged-ones ……
Blue Moon
A blue moon is the second full moon in a calendar month. For a blue moon to occur, the first of the full moons must appear at or near the beginning of the month so that the second will fall within the same month. It only occurs once in a while.
So when the crafts shop in Glengarriff, Moon, offered us the use of its empty sister shop, we were amazed!! The owners of Moon crafts, Debbie and George, very kindly let us the use of the shop until they could find someoen to rent it. More huge thanks!!
Huge Thank You!!
A massive thank you to Donegal Workwear and Embroidery who we approached to embroider our high viz vests for the up and coming street collection (Sept 10th for those who would like to volunteer) as well as other events. Initally we managed to persuade them to sponosor the logo on the front for free and after they viewed our website, they became so impressed they refused all payment!!! Can you belive it??? We wish to extend our HUGE thanks to them and wish them every success in their future business.

"Look deep into the eyes of any animal, and then for a moment, trade places, their life becomes as precious as yours and you become as vulnerable as them. Now smile if you believe all animals deserve our respect and our protection, for in a way, they are us, and we are them." ~ Philip Ochoa Board Member, ALL FOR ANIMALS
